Writing for search engines?
Many webmasters make the mistake of writing their content for search engines, not for people. And while throwing in some keywords here and there never hurt, the name of the game is now quality, not density. As search engines get smarter and smarter, they are able to tell the difference between badly written, spammy content and well-thought-out articles. So how do you make sure that your content is loved by both search engines and actual humans who read them? SEO Chat offers some tips, but we have two more to add:
1. Make it sound natural. Real SEO-friendly content should not only be rich in well-positioned keywords, but should also be an easy read for average internet users. You need to make sure that your target words and phrases appear frequently but naturally. Avoid using the words over and over, or search engines may interpret it as spam. A 2$% keyword density is ideal.
2. Use LSI. Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is used by major search engines as a part of their (grade) algorithm. It involves more than just using synonyms of the keywords you want to use. LSI involves studying the article as a whole and creating other (unique) articles that contain some of the same keywords in the previous article. Search engines will then recognize these similar pages as being semantically close, and this makes a significant impact in indexing. The LSI method was actually based on how average human beings think. The algorithm does not “understand” what the words mean, but it can notice patterns quite intelligently.
The backbone of the internet is content – written content, to be specific. Take away all the snazzy pictures and flashy fonts and you will find that written content is what really holds the information highway together. Search engines love content, and if you are able to successfully marry quality with just the right keyword usage, placement and density, both the search engines and your users will keep coming back.
